How I work with children...
Child psychology focuses on the psychological, emotional, and social development of children from infancy through adolescence, aiming to understand how early experiences shape lifelong cognitive and emotional well-being. Because children process thoughts and express emotions differently than adults, therapeutic modalities are tailored to their developmental stages, leveraging creative, behavioral, and relational approaches:
Play Therapy
Uses play as the primary medium for children to express feelings, process trauma, and develop problem-solving skills when they lack the verbal capabilities for traditional talk therapy.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Helps older children and adolescents identify unhelpful thought patterns and behaviors, teaching practical coping mechanisms for anxiety, depression, and stress.
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
Focuses on improving the parent-child relationship by coaching parents in real-time to reinforce positive behaviors and manage challenging actions.
Family Therapy
Examines the child's behavior within the context of the family system, fostering better communication and resolving dynamics that impact the child’s emotional health.
Expressive Arts Therapy
Utilizes drawing, music, and storytelling to help children articulate complex emotions that are difficult to put into words.
